2016 – Viola Davis (Fences)
Fences was released in the United States on December 16, 2016, by Paramount Pictures, received positive reviews and grossed $64 million. The film was chosen by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2016, and was nominated for numerous awards, including four Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Actor (Denzel Washington), Best Supporting Actress (Viola Davis) and Best Adapted Screenplay, with Davis winning for her performance.
2017 – Allison Janney (I, Tonya)
I, Tonya is a biographical film directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Steven Rogers. It follows the life of figure skater Tonya Harding and her connection to the 1994 attack on her rival Nancy Kerrigan. It features darkly comedic interviews with the characters in mockumentary-style, set in the modern day. Allison Janney plays LaVona Golden, Harding’s mother.

If Beale Street Could Talk is based on James Baldwin’s novel of the same name. The film follows a young woman who, with her family’s support, seeks to clear the name of her wrongly charged lover and prove his innocence before the birth of their child. Regina King plays Sharon Rivers, Ernestine and Tish’s mother and Joseph’s wife.
